the Black August PLAYBOOK

Living Black August, one principle at a time.

Knowing isn't doing. STUDY, TRAIN, and FAST are how we prepare BUT FIGHT is how we act. This final principle is how we mobilize: an active, unwavering commitment to collective resistance, to defending our communities, and to dismantling white supremacy, capitalism, and every system built to keep us down.

Huey P. Newton and the Panthers understood that liberation is a practice. And fighting doesn't mean one thing. It means doing something, consistently, together, until every single one of us is free.

FIGHT WITH YOUR VOICE

Silence protects the system. Your voice disrupts it.

Tell the truth out loud, even when it's uncomfortable

Organize the group chat, the cookout, the family table

Use your platform, however big or small, to name what's wrong

Call your reps and make them hear you

Teach someone what you know, political education is resistance

FIGHT WITH YOUR DOLLAR

Where your money goes, your power goes.

Boycott companies funding our oppression

Buy Black: keep dollars in our community

Divest from banks and brands that don't serve us

Fund the work: bail funds, mutual aid, grassroots orgs

Support the businesses showing up for the movement

FIGHT WITH YOUR PRESENCE

Presence is power. They can't ignore a people who show up.

Be a body at the protest, the march, the vigil

Volunteer with organizations doing the work

Show up for community defense; protect your people

Attend the meeting, the hearing, the town hall

Accompany someone who shouldn't have to go alone

FIGHT WITH YOUR GIFTS

The movement needs every skill. Including yours.

Make the art, the music, the words that move people

Use your trade (legal, medical, tech, teaching) for the movement

Document what's happening; witness is resistance

Feed people, heal people, build with people

Whatever your gift, aim it at liberation

FIGHT FOR THE LONG HAUL

They're counting on us to quit. We don't.

Rest: a burned-out fighter helps no one

Pace yourself; this is a marathon, not a sprint

Protect your joy: it's fuel, not a distraction

Lean on community; nobody frees themselves alone

Come back tomorrow, and the day after that

STUDY what they never taught us.

TRAIN the body and mind for the work.

FAST to clear what clouds us.

FIGHT for our collective liberation.

These four principles were never just for August; they're a way to live, all year, until every one of us is free.

This completes the Black August series. Keep going, the work isn't finished, and neither are we!
