Our SUPREME candle was designed to mark this historic moment: the confirmation of the first Black woman Supreme Court justice. This candle seeks to highlight the legacy of Black women's contributions to fighting for justice, strives to mark this momentous present moment, and attempts to light a hopeful flame towards the future. And everything about this candle is symbolic.
First up, the scent design. This candle is a refreshing blend of juniper, orange blossom, and bay leaves. Juniper to symbolize strength even in the midst of harsh conditions; orange blossom is the state flower of Florida where Judge Jackson was raised; and bay leaves to symbolize victory and wisdom. Together, these scent notes make a vibrant, textured, powerful blend. A hopeful, crisp, cleansing combination that lifts the spirits ... and also reminds us that there is still so much more work to do.
The label features a reimagined lady justice cast against a deep blue background (symbolic of justice and wisdom). She is crushing the snake of evil with her left foot and is holding the scales of the court's impartiality in her left hand. She also holds a sword in her right hand, a symbol of justice and is blindfolded to symbolize fairness. There is gold throughout to represent the magic that is Black women. Even the main font is symbolic--Century Schoolbook, the font the US Supreme Court uses to publish its opinions.
We know you will enjoy this piece of historical scent art and hope you will light this candle in solidarity with us during Judge Brown Jackson's swearing in ceremony!
