"True community is based upon equality, mutuality, and reciprocity. It affirms the richness of individual diversity as well as the common human ties that bind us together." ~ Pauli Murray
Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray was a pioneering civil rights activist, lawyer, feminist, writer, and the first Black person perceived to be a woman to be ordained as an Episcopal priest. A tireless advocate for social justice, Murray’s work bridged the civil rights and women's rights movements, and played a significant role in the legal fight against segregation and discrimination.
This candle is a scent tribute to their life and contributions, created in partnership with visual artist Claire Alexander and the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice. Together, the scent notes not only capture the essence of the Durham neighborhood Pauli grew up in, but also symbolize the inner richness and faith, optimism, stability, resilience, hope and strength that her commitment to community fully embodied. 25% of net sales go directly to supporting the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice.
