There's something special about August. Hot, humid, sticky, emboldened. It's the month the enslaved chose to rise: Gabriel in Richmond, Nat Turner in Southampton, the fires of Saint-Domingue. It's the month that took Jonathan and George Jackson inside the walls of San Quentin, and when in 1979 the ones who remained made a discipline out of remembering. 

Black August was born in that California prison movement to honor fallen freedom fighters and political prisoners, and to keep the Black liberation struggle alive. Today, Black August is a time to commit to four principles across all 31 days: study, train, fast, fight. This scent is our offering to that legacy. A scent to sit with, to burn while you do the work. A scent that recognizes the complexity of liberation -- pain and struggle, but also so much love, and even moments of pure joy. 25% of sales go directly to Black August in the Park, supporting their work honoring Black liberation and Black joy.

Scent Notes: Redblush grapefruit and leather. Redblush grapefruit opens sharp and sun-ripened, a brightness that refuses to dim. It's grounded in leather that holds the book's bound spine, grandma's couch: two bold notes made one, just as we must be united in freedom.   

Candle Details: Each 10oz Black, matte vessel contains 7.5 ounces of wax and custom-blended fragrance, along with all natural cotton wicks. 70-80 hours of burn time each.
